Established in 1984, Makin’ Steps Performing Arts offers a wide variety of classes in many aspects of performing arts, from beginners to advance level. Classes include hip hop/street dance, ballet, modern, tap, singing, musical theatre, melody bear and HIIT classes and are taught in one of our three fully facilitated studios at our Potter Street venue.
Professional Classes
Makin’ Steps tutors are experienced, qualified and CRB registered professionals who are passionate about their teaching fields. Our principle teachers have worked alongside top artists including Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams, on TV shows such as MTV and The Brit Awards.
Performance Oppertunities
We offer our students a multitude of different performance opportunities from annual shows, local displays and professional engagements with the Makin' Steps agency. Our school productions have had many amazing reviews from the press, theatre critics and MP's.
I.S.T.D Examinations
We have entered thousands of pupils over the past 30+ years into ISTD Street Dance, Ballet, Tap & Modern examinations with an impressive 100% pass rate. Although not compulsory, these classes are offered for those students who wish to gain accredited certificates in their chosen dance genre.
Workshops with world renowned choreographers
We offer additional workshops and classes with international choreographers. These have included Ashley Wallen - Choreographer of ``The Greatest Showman`` & ``Kylie Minogue`` and Marty Kudelka - Choreographer of Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson to name but a few.
Student Destinations
Over the years many of our students have gained places at professional dance colleges and have gained work in the entertainment business, including, pop videos, West End shows and modelling assignments.
Woodbury Recording Studios
We work closely with Woodbury Recording studios - who produce all the music for our shows and special events. Woodbury also gives some of our pupils recording work for companies such as Willows Activity Farm.

Like all sport activities, dance requires not only knowledge of ‘steps and combinations’ but also a great understanding of anatomy, health, safety and student welfare. Proof of the high standard you will receive at Makin ’Steps is shown by the fact that many of the school’s pupils have furthered their training at professional London based colleges such as Performers, London Studio Centre and Urdang Performing Arts, with past and present pupils engaging in professional contracts all over the world.
These have included lead & cast roles in West End musicals, dancing in Pop videos, on TV and a vast array of corporate events. Makin’ Steps also holds regular productions and class showcases and performs at many events throughout the year, giving its pupils the perfect platform to showcase the skills they have learnt at the school.
